The Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation awarded $150,000 – the largest disbursement of money to date – to 26 recipients on June 20, 2018 as part of this year’s 2018 Scholarship Program.
Since its inception in 2005, Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation has awarded $1,247,000 to a total of 284 award recipients, with additional financial contributions from The Central Intelligence Retirees Association (CIRA) and NW Capital Management, to deserving students who have demonstrated leadership, dedication and commitment in school, at home and in the community.
NWFCU Foundation understands that with the rising tuition costs and burden of student loans, many students need assistance paying for college. The Foundation encourages students seeking financial support to pursue higher education to consider applying for one of the following scholarships:
Ben DeFelice Scholarship
NWFCU Foundation established the Ben DeFelice Scholarship to pay tribute to Mr. DeFelice, NWFCU's longest running Chairman of the Board (31 years) and nine-year veteran of the Board of NWFCU's subsidiary, NW Capital Management LLC. A dedicated leader and visionary, Mr. DeFelice played a pivotal role in the development and success of NWFCU.
The Central Intelligence Retirees Association (CIRA) is comprised of current and former CIA Officers who understand the sacrifices made by current CIA officers. CIRA - in collaboration with the NWFCU Foundation - created the CIRA Scholarship Program in recognition of the demands placed on CIA families and the importance of supporting the educational goals of the children and grandchildren of current and former CIA officers.
NWFCU Foundation established its Need Based Scholarship to assist students with serious financial hardship and very limited resources to pursue a college education.
Higher Education Community College Award
NWFCU Foundation established its Higher Education Award in partnership with local community college(s) to provide assistance to college students on the brink of completing their associates degree and who otherwise do not have the funds to complete their education.
