Since its inception in 2005, Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation has awarded over $2 Million to a total of 400 scholarship award recipients.
Ben DeFelice Scholarship
The Ben DeFelice Scholarship pays tribute to Mr. DeFelice, NWFCU’s longest running Chairman of the Board (31 years) and nine-year veteran of the Board of NWFCU’s subsidiary, Northwest Financial Advisors. Mr. DeFelice exemplified leadership and commitment in school, at home, and in the community.
Ben DeFelice Scholarship applicants must:
- be members of the credit union for at least a year OR
- have a parent/grandparent who has been a member of the Credit Union for at least one year AND open a Northwest Federal Credit Union account at the time of application
- be accepted into a full-time associate or undergraduate degree for the 2024-2025 school year
- agree to submit transcripts and acceptance and/or enrollment letter if selected as a finalist
CIRA Scholarship
The Central Intelligence Retirees Association (CIRA) is comprised of current and former CIA employees and contractors. The CIRA Scholarship Program recognizes the sacrifices made and demands placed on CIA employees and their families by supporting the educational goals of their children and grandchildren.
CIRA Scholarship applicants must:
- be the child or grandchild of a current or former CIA employee
- the primary holder of a Northwest Federal Credit Union Account
- be accepted into a full-time associate or undergraduate degree program for the 2024-2025 school year
- agree to submit transcripts and acceptance and/or enrollment letter if selected as a finalist
- apply the funds to undergraduate education
Community-Based Scholarship
The Community-Based Scholarship was established to provide students with financial hardship and limited resources the ability to pursue a higher education, such as a career or technical education program, community college, or a 4-year institution.
Community-Based applicants must:
- currently be enrolled or have graduated from selected Fairfax, Loudoun, or Prince William County schools within the last two (2) years or are Second Story or Mobile Hope participants. Click for a list of eligible schools
- agree to submit transcripts and acceptance and/or enrollment letter if selected as a finalist
- Second Story and/or Mobile Hope applicants may submit a participant verification form in lieu of a transcript
- agree to submit FAFSA Student Aid Index (SAI) or VASA score and financial aid award letter prior to any award of funds
- open an account with Northwest Federal Credit Union if not already a member
